Students Make Honor Band

In early March 2021, hundreds of students across most of North/Central Alabama and a few parts of Mississippi applied to the University of North Alabama Invitational Honor Band. Students sent in applications that listed their years of experience and as well as comments from their band directors as to their abilities and character. From those applications, only 80 students were chosen to participate in the Honor band. Honor bands like these open up college scholarship opportunities for the students as well as a great experience they can bring back to their own band programs. This year 3 of those 80 students were from Burnsville Junior High. The students spent only 8 short hours spread across 2 days to prepare a full concert for parents, students, and directors that was held on March 19, 2021. This is the first Honor band that students have been able to attend due to Covid restrictions across many states. The University had many safety protocols in place to ensure the safety of the students and staff. The students saw their first glimpse of normalcy and were able to make music together for the first time in over a year! The Tishomingo County School District would like to congratulate these students for all their hard work and dedication. Students like you show how important music education is in our schools and all the places it can take you.  Congratulations!
